Enola Holmes is one of my favorite movies on Netflix because it empowers women in so many ways and I love how courageous Enola is in fighting against the norm in the society back in the days especially as a woman.
In today's blog, I have recreated a simpler version of the Enola Holmes' movie poster (as you can see on the right side). If we look at the original version, it is undeniable that it was beautifully designed, however, in my opinion it is too crowded as multiple characters are shown in the poster and it is difficult for audience to figure out what the movie is about or to focus on which characters or things that are shown in the poster.
Therefore, I created a minimalist version of the poster that gives a small amount of clue or hint of what the movie is going to be about. When potential audience see this poster, they will know right away that it is a movie about adventure and problem solving. To add, the magnifying glass, compass and map are the major attractions of the poster. It is not overly crowded and it is pleasant in the eyes.
The original poster is really cool and it is entertaining to see the characters on the poster but just like I have mentioned previously, I am not a fan of posters with lots of people in it. I feel like it is too crowded and a bit backdated considering the year we are in in which minimalism is the genre. Therefore, as you can see on the right side, I sketched a simplified version of the movie poster. The guitar itself is portraying that there will be rock element in the movie other than the title. It is much simpler this way and people can focus solely on the movie title and what it is going to be about.
In conclusion, both versions of these posters are great, however, to be aligned with the current trend or rhythm, it is time for movie industry to move forward and leave the cliché poster behind and start to design movie posters in simpler minimalist version.
